Apps that recognize AI-generated content are gaining traction. A few days ago, there was a viral story about how nearly all of the Google image results for "baby peacock" are AI-generated. This angered many people; the last thing someone wants is to see the world distorted because of an image they cannot identify as AI-generated.
It's time for solutions: In the last 48 hours, we've seen a bunch of products that provide a solution going viral:
Kagi released an "AI image filter" for search results. It hit the front page of Hacker News.
A few mainstream media outlets have been writing about a Chrome extension that can reliably detect AI-generated voices.
There's a clear trend here: an increasing demand to be able to distinguish AI-generated content from human content.
It's much needed but I fear that this will be like an arms race and AI will continue to improve its ability to evade detection.
There are so many implications around the ability to detect GenAI content.. it's hard to wrap your head around. I, like many, hope that this will be useful in reducing misinformation in:
- politics / voting
- education
- medicine / health
- media
I mostly worry about regulation going so far as to hamper the ability of some to keep up with the less-than-good-intentions of others.
AI is becoming so good it's hard to tell..
