The AI company also announced a $200/month "Pro" plan with access to an even better version of the full o1 model.
OpenAI has finally launched the full version of its o1 model.
It's faster than o1-preview and can digest images.
A new $200 Pro plan offers unlimited access to o1, GPT-4o, and Advanced Voice mode.
OpenAI's "12 Days of Shipmas" has certainly kicked off with a bang. On Day 1, the company launched the full version of its o1 model in ChatGPT and dropped a $200 unlimited Pro plan.
The full o1 is much faster than a "preview" version launched earlier this year and can now respond to images.
It's a "reasoning" model, which means it works through problems step-by-step. It's given more processing time to "think" things through, resulting in slower but (hopefully) higher-quality results for scientific, math and coding queries.
For o1-preview, responses were often painfully slow, even for relatively simple queries.
But the full version thinks fast. A clip from OpenAI shows it giving detailed advice on how to build a bird box from a photo in seconds.
Indie Hackers got similarly fast and detailed responses when testing out the model.
It took roughly a second to respond to a request for advice on making festive decorations, for example, and less than 20 seconds to finish its full 653-word answer.
You can see how quickly it responds in the GIF below, which was captured in real time.
The model's performance has also improved markedly. OpenAI says it's 34% less likely to make mistakes than o1-preview.
More detailed benchmarking shows it's considerably better at coding and math than o1, and somewhat better at expert science questions.
But it can't do everything just yet. Users will have to wait to search the internet with o1 or access the model via the OpenAI API. The company says it's working on these features and plans to get them out soon.
For now, o1 can be accessed using the model selector in ChatGPT. It's currently available to Plus and Team users and will be rolled out to those on Enterprise and Education plans in a week.
An even better version of the model will be available to users on a new ChatGPT Pro subscription tier. OpenAI says it gets more time to think, so it produces more reliable results.
Costing $200 a month, the Pro plan will also give users unlimited access to o1, GPT-4o, and Advanced Voice mode.
A Grant Program will give 10 medical researchers Pro subscriptions, with awards for other disciplines yet to be announced.
With 11 Days of Shipmas to go, OpenAI fans still have plenty to get excited about. Will tomorrow bring the long-awaited launch of the Sora text-to-video model? Or what about a rumored autonomous AI agent codenamed Operator?
Announcements will be made by livestream from 10am PT each day.
Dang, that new o1 model seems like it's on fire! $200/month for that Pro plan sounds steep, but if it means getting those faster and more reliable results, it could be worth it. Can't wait to see what else they drop during Shipmas! 🎉
nowadays AI change every thing. thats very intresting
Frankly this doesn't seem worth $2400/yr at this point.
thats very intresting
sounds good
