OpenAI fails to keep its promise to developers with GPT Store.
Wired cited stories from numerous developers on how OpenAI failed to include them in its Pilot program. These were developers who got millions of installs and were featured on the front page of the GPT store.
Most developers who made GPTs for the store made money via other means:
Monetizing their GPTs affiliate links or third-party networks
Using the traffic as an acquisition channel for their paid versions
Networking with customers and getting career opportunities
It's unfortunate that OpenAI hasn't fulfilled its promise to developers in the GPT Store. Many talented creators deserve recognition for their hard work. It's vital for OpenAI to better support those contributing to the ecosystem to encourage innovation.
My guy says that backward compatibility for plugins would have potentially been a nightmare for OpenAI and developers. Not sure if anyone has figured how to build an ecosystem of durable tools on top of changing models.
