Top apps that Gen Z downloaded this year. AppFigures, one of the world's largest app intelligence firms, recently published a report on the top mobile apps that Gen Z (young adults between 18 and 24) downloaded in 2024.
Here are some interesting tidbits from the report:
Temu took the #1 spot. Temu is a popular online marketplace that rivals Amazon.
The short drama industry is growing. ShortMax is one of the world's fastest growing short-drama apps, and 18- to 24-year-olds have installed the app over 10 million times so far in 2024.
AI study companion apps also get traction. Gauth is a homework help app developed by ByteDance, TikTok's parent company. Gauth saw a surge in downloads earlier this year.
A clear theme runs through every product that Gen Z is drawn to: high rewards for low effort. Temu offers a gamified shopping experience. ShortMax and "short dramas" offer self-explanatory fast entertainment. And Gauth is ByteDance's way to offer children the anti-venom for a snakebite they themselves delivered.
Seeing the popularity of TikTok series of TV show episodes ShortMax is pretty ingenious
